Exploring Cross-Curricular Planning

Log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

Middle-level students need to understand the interrelatedness of content-area subjects. Through cross-curricular units, students can construct and connect learning by applying knowledge in a new context, whether it is a project, essay, presentation, or non-print media. Cross-curricular units are flexible, adaptable, and provide both breadth and depth of learning, as students are immersed in reading, writing, discussion, and collaboration. These units also engage students in deeper, authentic, and more relevant learning experiences. Our academic team has built several units around informational texts focusing on at least two to four content areas. This presentation will explain the planning and development of our units as well as provide resources teachers can use to develop units for their students.
